The holidays are here, time to share with family, be a little kinder, to give thanks for all our blessings and... BUY, BUY, BUY!
Ok, this year there is a whole new range of options in terms of technology to choose from, PCs, Laptops, Netbooks and Tablets, WHAT'S IT TO ME!?
Well, let me start with the basics, the PC is dead, may it rest in peace. The PCs are large, heavy, require a desk and definitely can not be moved easily. A laptop can fulfill all the functions of a PC with the enormous advantage of being small and mobile.
Second, Netbooks were a great idea on paper, I even buy one, but when you use one you will notice that the keyboard and screen are too small, the storage capacity is limited and it falls short in performance. However, Netbooks showed the world that it was possible to have good technology at an affordable price. Thanks to Netbooks, Laptops nowadays are much more accessible.
That leaves us with 2 finalists, Laptop or Tablet? Well, I hate to say it, but the answer is:

That leaves us with 2 finalists, Laptop or Tablet? Well, I hate to say it, but the answer is:
it depends.
If your computer is already very old and battered, and needs to be replaced, then you should undoubtedly choose a Laptop. Today there are a wide variety to choose from, but what you should focus more than anything on is:
1. Processor, preferably Dual Core and should have at least 2 MHz of capacity
2. RAM, the minimum acceptable is 4 Gb, otherwise many current and future programs will run very slowly
3. Hard Drive, the minimum should be 160 Gb, surely yo will use your computer to store music, photos and movies, you will need enough space.
Now, if your current computer is still appropriate for you to work in Word or Excel to save your photo library or running your regular programs, then maybe a tablet could become your new toy.
The issue is, what the hell is a tablet? What's it for? What are the advantages? Ok, let's take it step by step. A tablet is a multimedia center, basically. It is a tool that lets you check your Facebook, surf the Web, view photos of your travels, read digital books (and save good money by not buying physical books), playing games, watching movies or even television!
The point of the tablet is not to replace the computer, that's not the idea. A lot of accesories sold today try to make it feel a lot like a computer, such as keyboards, mouse and cases to carry it all together. But the simplicity of the operating system and limitations in performance will make you feel frustrated if you make it your main work machine. Use your tablet to check your mail while watching TV, to participate in forums of your favorite show while you watch them, to find player stats while watching a game. Use it to read magazines or a good book when you are traveling or while waiting at the doctors office, or to review a document or spreadsheet on the way to a meeting with a client.
You can also use it to teach your baby vowels in an interactive way, to help your child learn the multiplication tables, or so that your children will not get bored during a long trip. Ultimately, there are many possible uses for a tablet, the only limitation is your creativity.
I still have much ground to cover regarding Tablets, such as brand options, screen sizes, operating systems and prices. Let's leave that topic for another post ;-)
